Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain America: The First Avenger recently came out and I saw it in 3D (I think it was Real 3D). You might be thinking who the other Avengers are, if you are like me and haven’t read comics then that it is a fair thing to wonder. Captain America is set in the same universe as Ironman. It is pretty obvious in this movie as Howard Stark is quite an important character, and Howard Stark is the father of Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr. in the recent films). The first glimpse of Howard Stark is a banner at the top of the screen when Captain America’s character (before he becomes Captain America) is at the world fair that is mentioned in the Iron Man films. I thought this was an easter egg.
But it wasn’t. Because Howard Stark appears several times. So I’m not as clever as I thought.
Without giving too much away, this is a really good film. It takes a while for Chris Evans to become Captain America but it works out quite well. I thought Captain America would be quite an arrogant character but he isn’t at all. At first he is small and weak but a really nice decent guy and actually stays that way. I was worried it was going to be a plot point where he changes his attitude which would have been predictable.
I won’t go into any detail about whether or not this film is an allegory for the current state of the USA (it probably isn’t) because the point of this film is to entertain. Which it does very well.
The 3D effect is pretty good although if the film weren’t 3D it would not have been any worse.
Definitely worth seeing. My only disappointment was that the audience in the theatre didn’t jump up at any point shouting “U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!”
